The purpose of this study is to examine 1) How the Banjar people arrived in Sungai Ular Village, Secanggang Sub-district, Langkat Regency, 2) How the Bapapai tradition is carried out in the marriage customs of the Banjar people in Sungai Ular Village, Secanggang Sub-district, Langkat Regency, 3) What philosophical values are contained in the Bapapai tradition in the marriage customs of the Banjar people. This research uses a qualitative method with a historical-anthropological (ethnographic) approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of customary leaders, the community, and parties who understand the implementation of the Bapapai tradition. The results of the study show that the Banjar community in Sungai Ular Village arrived through a migration process from their place of origin and then settled and brought various cultural traditions, one of which is the Bapapai tradition. The implementation of this tradition is carried out before or approaching the wedding with various series of activities such as fetching bath water, praying together, and the flower bath procession. The Bapapai tradition is not only a part of wedding customs, but also contains life values, such as togetherness, patience, responsibility, respect for parents, as well as harmony in household life and society. This tradition also serves as a medium for passing down history and the cultural identity of the Banjar people, especially in Sungai Ular Village. This research is expected to increase public understanding of the meaning of the Bapapai tradition and help preserve and pass on the culture to the younger generation so that it is not eroded by the currents of modernization
