Abstract

Every cultural tradition existing in the life of the Batak Toba community carries a historical background and profound meaning that underlies its existence. Such is the case with the Mangongkal Holi tradition, which remains alive and practiced to this day by the Batak Toba people, particularly those residing in Pandumaan-Sipituhuta District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency. This tradition is not merely a series of customary activities, but also preserves historical, philosophical, and cultural values that have evolved alongside the development of community life. Behind every procedure and implementation method, there lie noble messages that make this tradition a key medium for passing down history and culture from one generation to the next. Therefore, understanding its origin, meaning, and inherent values is essential knowledge, especially for the younger generation as the successors of cultural heritage. This understanding ensures that the cultural wealth and identity of the Batak Toba community are always preserved and sustained amidst the rapid changes of modern times.
